Xrefer Changes its name to Credo Reference

Boston and London, June 23, 2007 – Xrefer, the leading provider of online reference services for libraries worldwide, announced today that it has changed its name to Credo Reference. The new name reflects the deepening commitment of the company to delivering high quality reference content that users can rely on with confidence, and that librarians can be proud to offer to their patrons.

“While the former name spoke to one of the many benefits of our functionality, cross-linking across content from hundreds of quality titles from dozens of the best reference publishers,” commented John Dove, Credo Reference CEO, “it was far from memorable to those who might hear it for the first time. This made it hard to pass along via word-of-mouth. Our new name speaks to one of the main challenges for online reference publishing, namely how to stand out from the confusing jumble of information and misinformation that today’s online information seeker encounters.”

Users of Credo Reference will still be receiving the same rewarding and enjoyable reference experience that they’ve always had with Xrefer – just with a name that better signifies its strengths. Credo helps users to make sense of the world of information, delivering real added value to students, researchers, businesses and reference help desks worldwide. Credo currently provides users with cross-searchable access to over 3 million entries from 273 titles and 57 publishers and these numbers are growing quickly.

“‘Credo’ is a single English word that is memorable by both users and librarians,” added Dove, “It stands for content that users can rely on with confidence and librarians can provide with clarity and credibility.”

The name change takes effect immediately; with updates to the corporate Web site and the award-winning service, formerly xreferplus. Customers using the service will be able to continue to access it without any break.
