BWF Unveils New Logo
by Yves Lacroix
Amongst the many changes made in 2006 at the IBF to modernize badminton’s image, one was to give the federation a new name. However, the name change left the newly rebaptized Badminton World Federation (BWF) with an outdated logo.
Hence, a three-month contest was launched amongst the public in November of last year to provide the BWF with a new dynamic logo under the theme “Badminton Unites the World”. The contest, which prompted no less than 1600 entries, offered the winner a US$ 5,000 prize as well as a trip to either the ongoing Sudirman Cup or the upcoming World Championships in Malaysia.
Aboeb Luthfy’s entry earned the Indonesian the honour of providing the BWF with its new visual trademark.
The monochrome red logo, representing a shuttlecock circling a stylish globe, will be officially launched today at the Sudirman Cup in Glasgow.
