Canada's CAs symbolized by new logo

Dynamic, colourful logo expresses value provided by Chartered Accountants

Canada’s Chartered Accountants are getting a new look as the profession unveils a dynamic and modern redesigned logo. Updated for the first time since the early 1990s and launched June 1, the new CA logo reflects the leadership and value provided by the more than 72,000 CAs and 10,000 CA students in Canada and Bermuda.

“Canada’s CAs play leadership roles in all segments of Canadian and international business, providing financial expertise, strategic thinking and business insight,” said Kevin Dancey, FCA, President and CEO of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. “This powerful new logo visually unifies our profession and graphically symbolizes the value provided by CAs.”

CAs across Canada and Bermuda will be able to use the new logo as part of the identity of their own practices. The logo conversion will take place over the summer of 2007. Both the new and former logos will co-exist for a short transitional period. It is anticipated that the new symbol will be fully in place by this fall.

Design firm Gottschalk + Ash International created the new logo to enhance the profession’s brand by symbolizing the essence and value of Chartered Accountants.

The multi-coloured symbol is intended to suggest the multi-dimensional nature of the CA designation. The colours are bright, bold and contemporary. The wordmark itself is in uppercase black type – authoritative, bold, solid and strong, which is designed to balance with the bright colours in the symbol.

The sans-serif Gotham typeface has been chosen to be modern, unadorned and based on classical proportions, so that it will function well for many years without looking too trendy or dated. It has also been chosen to stand out among the many other typefaces that are widely used in these applications.

“Creating a new face for Canada’s CAs is part of the profession’s current branding initiative,” said Daniel McMahon, FCA, chair of the National Branding Committee for the CA profession. “The branding program is aimed at increasing recognition of the value CAs provide to individuals, businesses, and our capital markets and economy.”

Using advertising, media and stakeholder relations, the profession is building greater awareness that CAs provide unrivalled business insight, strategic thinking and leadership in addition to the financial expertise for which they are known.
