Downtown Spartanburg Association unveils new 'Creative Energy' logo By Sean P. Flynn

The city's 175th anniversary - and its ubiquitous logo - has come and gone, but the Downtown Spartanburg Association is hoping to harness the energy that came with the celebration.

The group unveiled a new logo Tuesday afternoon at the QS/1 building, titled “Spartanburg: Creative Energy.”

Like the 175th logo, this design will be prominent around town for the next 18 months, featured on items such as shirts, stickers, posters, caps and mobiles.

“We had a lot of success with establishing a long-overdue identity for Spartanburg with the 175th anniversary,” said Susan Schneider, the city's senior director for strategic marketing and communications. “People really connected with what we are as a city… With this (new campaign), we're trying to tap into that.”

The new logo was designed by Marius Valdes, a graphic design professor at USC Upstate.

It features a series of colored shapes, resembling humans and birds that interlock to make a circle. (…)
