Southeastern Unveils New “Savage Storm” Logo

The wait is over and the tradition continues at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

University officials unveiled the school’s new “Savage Storm” athletics logo this morning during a news conference in the lobby of Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium. A large group of student-athletes, coaches, faculty, staff, community members and media attended the event.

“This is indeed an historic day at Southeastern,” said University President Dr. Glen D. Johnson as he was joined by Dr. Jeff Hale and three student-athletes in unfurling an 8 × 10 banner of the logo. “We are proud of our outstanding tradition in intercollegiate athletics and look forward to an even brighter future.”

In January 2006, University officials announced that “Savage Storm” would be the athletic department’s new nickname. Since that time, a logo committee solicited design ideas to incorporate the new name into an athletics logo, culminating in today’s unveiling.

“It is a great pleasure to be a part of another milestone in the long and storied history of athletics at Southeastern Oklahoma State University,” said Dr. Jeff Hale, Vice President for Enrollment Management/Marketing and Intercollegiate Athletics.

Assisting in unveiling the banner were Olivia Franceskini, Sean Cooper and Candelon Burns.

Franciskini is a senior from Zadar, Croatia, and SOSU’s first volleyball All-America performer. She has also been named the Lone Star Conference North Division Pre-season Player of the Year for 2006. Cooper is a junior running back from Pittsburg, Texas, who earned All-Conference honors in 2005. Burns is a senior three-year letter-winner in cross-country from Haworth.
