Bucks look to past, future for new scheme
by Don Walker
With a nod to their early days and a look toward the future, the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night unveiled their new logo and color scheme.
Out goes the purple. In come three colors: a red that is far deeper than Bucky Badger red, the traditional forest green and silver.
The new look will be put in place immediately and is the product of a nearly two-year effort in conjunction with NBA Properties and NBA Merchandising. The new look will appear on all uniforms, warm-ups and other official apparel and merchandise.
The new logo is only the third change in the team's 38-year history.
“The historical Bucks forest green and the silver introduced in 1993 remain in the identity, but purple has been replaced by a deep red - more sophisticated than the classic red used in the Bucks' color palette from 1968 through the mid-1980s,” said Christopher Arena, vice president of NBA Apparel.
Bucks General Manager Larry Harris unveiled the logo and color scheme during the National Basketball Association draft. The new uniforms will not be unveiled until September.
The outline of the primary logo has not changed. The upside-down triangle that sits in the back of the logo was changed from purple to red. The word “Bucks” includes a more structured etched font with a retaining shape that mirrors the structure of the letters.
