Palinet's New Brand Identity:
Unveiling Our New Look as We Celebrate 70 Years of Cooperation

by Catherine C. Wilt

Coinciding with Palinet’s 70th anniversary and in preparation for the launch of our new website later this spring, I am pleased to unveil Palinet’s exciting new logo! (…)

Our team knew the logo had to be contemporary in appearance, with staying power. While not forgetting our past, the logo and its accompanying components must most importantly evoke interconnectedness, diversity, and forward movement, reaching into the future that, for Palinet, is already here.

The new logo suggests the current Palinet “pretzel,” which is basically four “Ps” in a circle. The new series of circles implies the “P” of Palinet’s existing logo, thereby acknowledging
our past.

But even more, the circles themselves promote the three aforementioned attributes:

Interconnectedness — The concept of a circle recognizes that our membership organization is connected, interdependent, and successful because of our long-standing commitment to cooperation and
collaboration.

Diversity — The inner circle represents members serving as leaders and trusted sources reaching towards the outer circle, representing our publics and new customers, whoever and wherever they may be
tomorrow.

Forward Movement — The entire logo is designed to evoke the notion of reaching into the Palinet’s future of technology, service, and leadership. Notice that the logo is canted, i.e. angled, to promote a sense of movement; the setup of circles themselves conveys movement from within, and again reach from the inner to the outer rings.

Our new logo acknowledges the deep respect we have for the rich history of our cooperative and establishes a new visual cue that we’re a vital, innovative, energetic group of libraries and cultural institutions shaping tomorrow. While the look is new, our core values and deep respect for our history remain constant.
