City of Redmond Introduces New Logo

Over the past thirty years, we’ve seen Redmond evolve into a diverse, vibrant community that still cherishes our natural environment.

In recognition of these changes and in conjunction with the move to our new City Hall, the City has developed a new logo. Graphic designer Alex Gilman of Eden Creations took elements of the former logo to honor our past and combined them with modern elements. A graceful heron back-dropped by both the natural and built environments, the new logo symbolizes Redmond’s care for the environment alongside our ties to technology.

In 1968, the original City logo was little more than a name and address under the administration of the Mayor. This was followed by a three dimensional or expanding “R” symbol, for which the City received a national award. In 1980, to update the image, a bar was added to the rolling “R.” In 1984, Park Department personnel designed a symbol that would fit more easily into their flyers and mailings. Using an image of a natural setting, graphic artist Gary Webster designed the new logo for Parks. Its popularity grew, until in April 1986, the Redmond City Council adopted the symbol as their official City logo. The words City of Redmond were added to surround the image.

The City’s new logo celebrates a sense of our past, present and future.
