Ryerson University Brand & Graphic Standards Manual
Excerpt:
Why We Need Brand Standards
With the evolution of our name from Ryerson Polytechnic Institute to Ryerson Polytechnic University to Ryerson University, it is now more important than ever that we establish a clear set of standards to manage the umbrella brand for the University as a whole.
Research has shown that Ryerson University enjoys a remarkable, if not always complete, external image. In fact, Ryerson University faces many challenges in terms of our brand identity including: outdated perceptions of our institution, varying top-of-mind awareness of Ryerson University and the lack of consistency of the University’s brand across various media from building signage to print materials.
To overcome these challenges, we must establish and communicate our identity effectively and consistently. Ryerson University is our public face. It is our brand identity. As such, we must ensure its clear, uniform presentation through graphic and visual elements. (…)
Where We’re Going
With the application of our new brandmark standards, we have better control over our identity and the image we want to project. There is one look, one voice—a common element that runs through all our materials, no matter what format, size or colour. There is uniformity to where the Ryerson University brandmark appears, to its colours and the typography used. These standards offer a flexible framework to design within and yet, deliver a consistency that is unmistakably recognized as belonging to Ryerson University.
