Japanese look to new Shire logo
Fresh, vibrant, rejuvenate, new - these are the words Council has used to describe its about to be launched corporate logo.
Cowra Shire Council General manager James Roncon, along with other management, signalled his intention last year of plans for a new logo and corporate branding.
Four designs were presented in March 2005 but were shelved and sent back.
The final version has a distinctive Japanese appearance.
Orange-based company Sauce Design created the image, with Roncon saying the entire process cost $900.
“What we have really tried to do is tie in all things that make our shire stand out from the rest with symbols.
“The key was to be easily identifiable. We wanted to create something that was easily recognisable, that separates us from all other towns.
“Whether we like it our not, what makes us stand is the [Japanese Pow] Breakout, but along with that, we have included all the other things that make Cowra special.”
Hence, he explained, the links in the imagery to the indigenous community, the Lachlan River and the shire's strong agricultural background.
The logo will appear on letterheads, advertisements, staff business cards, identification and security badging and all internal documents, as well as vehicles and cars.
It has already been presented to staff members and councillors last week, with the GM saying all in all, the reaction has been positive.
But he admitted there was some issues at first.
“It has been a long drawn out process. But [after his presentation to staff in the Civic Centre last week] I think they can see what we are trying to achieve. (…)
Roncon said the logo will be phased in as the equipment and stationary is replaced or runs out - in as little as two months for letterheads.
In a memorandum to councillors, he went into greater detail about the corporate branding focus.
“The corporate branding approach is about rejuvenating staff morale and focusing on the common goal of becoming the most effective and efficient Local Government Authority in NSW, in a fresh and vibrant manner.
“Corporate branding represents a large shift forward in where this organisation will head over the next few years and it is imperative that we as an organisation look to capitalise on the great Cowra attributes that exist, but at the same time, capitalise on what sets Cowra apart from every other town in Australia…”.
“The process of choosing a logo is something that has invited and involved input from all Cowra staff. Their comment and feedback has genuinely and gratefully been received and given due consideration before deciding on the final corporate brand/logo.”
