RCGA wants St. Louis to be center of attention
by Eric Heisler

The St. Louis area has a new logo for luring business, and area leaders say they hope it will translate to a new enthusiasm about the region's economy.

The logo was unveiled Tuesday to an ovation from a group of business leaders. The group also got a peek at new advertisements for the area and a new slogan - “St. Louis: Perfectly Centered. Remarkably Connected.”

The logo and other materials are part of a $2 million-a-year marketing campaign that's about to be launched by the Regional Chamber & Growth Association. (…)

St. Louis residents can expect to see the logo and slogan immediately in newspaper ads featuring St. Louis workers and businesspeople. Its real audience, however, is corporate executives and the consultants who advise them on where to locate or expand operations.

The marketing effort is all part of the RCGA's plan to spend $20 million on economic development over the next five years. The plan is being funded by public and private dollars.

The logo, slogan and ads were designed by Fleishman-Hillard, a St. Louis-based public relations agency. The RCGA spent $700,000 on the design work and related research.

Along with the logo, the RCGA also rolled out a new “brand” for St. Louis and a new Web site, gotostlouis.org. The brand is based on the idea that St. Louis has a high quality of life, a strong work force and other attributes that are important to companies.

The logo and slogan also are a continuation of the RCGA's attempt to promote the St. Louis metro area with a single, unified message. It's something that more metro areas have begun to do over the last two decades, said Jeff Finkle, president of the International Economic Development Council in Washington, D.C.
