Introduction
The new Sure Start was launched in December 2002. It brings together Government policy on early education, childcare, health and family support.

Sure Start offers all children access to free early education before they start school, more and better childcare and greater help where there is greater need through childcare tax credit, children's centres and Sure Start local programmes. It supports families from pregnancy right through until children are 14, or 16 if they are disabled or have special educational needs. This is the next step in the Government's intention to halve child poverty by 2010 and improve opportunities for all children across the country.

The new Sure Start has a new brand. The new brand is to help the Unit inform people working in the sector and parents that Sure Start is a coherent Government strategy to improve outcomes for children, parents and communities.

The new brand replaces other national logos
The new Sure Start logo replaces the Government's existing national logos - the Early Years 'hands' logo and the old Sure Start 'sun' logo.

The Sure Start Unit will promote the use of the new Sure Start logo and the Sure Start support symbol on all our services and products. We will cease to promote sub-brands for our various programmes - eg Early Excellence Centres, Sure Start local programmes (the old Sure Start 'sun' logo) and Neighbourhood Nurseries. Where local services or agencies have their own local logos, we expect these to be used in conjunction with the Sure Start logo.

Basic elements
The Sure Start logo consists of a specially drawn typeface. It must never be distorted or altered in any way. You should not attempt to reproduce it yourself. Digital artwork should always be used for the logo. If you are unsure which format to use, please contact info.Sure Start@dfes.gsi.gov.uk.

Positioning the new logo
Using the logo on leaflets, letterheads and printed materials, the logo should be used in the top right or bottom left hand corner of the page.
