NKU unveils new athletics logo

Northern Kentucky University will start the school year with a new athletics logo.
Athletic director Jane Meier will unveil the new-look design - featuring a Norse Viking helmet placed before crossed swords - at a faculty and staff picnic at about 6 p.m. today.
The logo replaces a Norse warship NKU had been using since 1992.
“We wanted something more athletic, more powerful,” Meier said.
The new logo incorporates school colors of gold, black and white, and, for the first time, gray. It will be phased into athletics this year, from a new floor decal in Regents Hall to updated art on scoreboards.
Meier said a change was in the works for nearly two years. Staff, students, boosters and administrators helped choose the new logo, which was designed by Dan Simon of Studio Simon in Louisville.
