Hartwick College Introduces New Hawk Athletic Logo
A new hawk soars over Oyaron Hill on the Hartwick College campus. College officials have unveiled a new hawk image to be used as the official logo of all Hartwick athletic teams.

“The new mark will be used on all athletic apparel, printed publications, and on the Hartwick athletic Web site,” said Hartwick Athletic Director Debbie Warren.

“We are pleased with the new image. The design is more contemporary, it lends itself to a variety of sizes and usages, and the hawk is appropriately more aggressive-looking than the former version.” The family of logos combines a bold block typeface with a profile of the hawk head, Warren said, and a series of wordmarks to be used on athletic clothing items as an alternative to the hawk image.

The primary mark, secondary mark, and a variety of wordmarks were created by Hartwick College alumnus Duane S. Tomaszewski '96, a graphic artist for the New York Mets and former Hartwick football player.

“The development of the new athletic logo coincides with enhancements to our outdoor athletic facilities that are being made during the summer,” Warren noted. “At both Elmore and All-Weather Fields, new press boxes are being installed and improvements in spectator seating will be made. At the Elmore location, a new, eight-lane, balsam-surface track will replace the old track. And at both locations, new, permanent buildings for concessions, hospitality, restrooms, and storage will be constructed.” As funding becomes available, College officials said, new artificial surfaces will be installed on both fields and lighting improvements will be made.
