UEFA EURO 2008 logo launched
The official countdown to UEFA EURO 2008 has begun with the launch of the logo for the final round, which will take place in Austria and Switzerland between 7 and 29 June 2008. The logo was unveiled at a ceremony at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna, Austria.
Three years
The logo has been launched exactly three years before the opening game – the first of 31 final-round matches which will culminate in the final at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna, Austria. Sixteen teams, including the Austrian and Swiss hosts, will take part in the 13th UEFA European Championship final tournament.
'Bigger is beautiful too'
UEFA Chief Executive Lars-Christer Olsson said of the championship in prospect: “When I organised the EURO in 1992 we were just eight teams and we said 'small is beautiful'. Now we are approaching 2008, we are much bigger and we say 'bigger is beautiful too'. Portugal was big and excellent and we are expecting a lot from Austria and Switzerland. I am sure these two countries can make it, especially with their hospitality and friendship.”
London-produced
The UEFA European Football Championship 2008 brand has been produced by design and branding company English & Pockett. The London-based consultancy was appointed to the project last year. The UEFA EURO 2008 brand comprises a variety of logo formats, a visual identity made of six individual and collective graphic icons, including three dimensional perspectives. The visual identity is produced in ten different colour palettes.
