GS Group takes first step with new logo

Celebrating the much-awaited unveiling of its new corporate logo, GS Group said yesterday that it will seek to pursue good corporate governance and a strong sense of social responsibility.

“We hope to build a top global company that is profitable, clean and contributes to society in the fullest,” said Hur Chang-su, chairman of the group.

The new logo was a joint effort between GS and Landor, a U.S.-based company specialized in creating corporate logos.

It features the colors orange, green and blue that are meant to symbolize ideas such as progressiveness, a strong service mind and transparent corporate governance.

GS Group, now ranked 14th-largest in the local corporate sector, was born last year after LG Group decided to split its operations between the two founding families - Koo and Hur - to end a 57-year partnership.

With nine affiliates under its wing, GS Group will focus on energy and retail. LG Group strengthened its electronics and chemical divisions.

On Mar. 31, GS will completely dispense with the LG moniker. Sister firms such as LG-Caltex Oil Corp. and LG Retail will switch to GS-Caltex Oil and GS Retail, the company's public relations team said.

“Our biggest job will be to create a new corporate image for GS Group and support the affiliates to excel as both individual companies and part of a larger corporation,” said Hur.

As industry watchers point out, the group boasts a unique position as one that was born out of a well-known conglomerate.

In mid-March, the company will announce its mid-term management plans.

Last year, GS Group raised an estimated 22 trillion won in sales. This year, it aims for 24 trillion won, said Hur.
