With effect from 1st January, Tokio Marine Insurans (Malaysia) Bhd, (TMIM), will change its corporate logo. Called the Millea Globe, the logo will be green in colour and will reflect the company's affiliation to Millea Asia. TMIM's original logo was a stylised blue “T”.
The move is aimed at streamlining TMIM's corporate image and aligning it with its ultimate holding company in Japan, Millea Holdings Inc. Millea Asia is TMIM's holding company and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Millea Holdings Inc.
Millea Holding Inc is Japan's biggest and the world's 6th largest insurer. It was set up following the coming together of The Tokio Marine & Fire Insurance Company Limited (TMF) and The Nichido Fire and Marine Insurance Company Limited in Japan under one group, in April 2002.
The change of logo is part of a series of initiatives to build corporate value, positioning and synergy between the current diverse products and services offered by this new entity, Millea.
TMF's presence in Malaysia dated way back in 1950s as an underwriting agent through The Overseas Assurance. Since then it had undergone several corporate exercises which finally saw the strategic formation of TMIM via the acquisition of The Wing On General Insurance Berhad in April 1999.
Although TMIM's presence is relatively new, a good brand name, strong financial backing, indepth product knowledge, efficient operational methodologies, vast reinsurance capacity and a customer-centric culture are among the elements that have significantly pushed TMIM's position in the Malaysian general insurance industry from 48th to an enviable 13th place in just five short years. In real terms, gross premiums have grown from RM31 million in 1999, to over RM280 million in 2004.
TMIM now operates eight branches and has over 1700 agents present in major towns and cities in East and West Malaysia. Its success has spurred TMIM to apply its resources to further expand its business in the country.
In addition to its expertise, TMIM has access to the considerable resources and technical support of Millea Asia that is headquartered in Singapore, to provide the best products and services for its customers.
