Features Initials “WD” to Simplify Communications as Company Grows in Geographic Markets and into New Product Segments
LAKE FOREST, Calif. - Oct. 06, 2004 - Western Digital Corp. (NYSE: WDC) today announced a change in its graphic identity to broaden the use of the initials “WD.” The change will simplify communications and strengthen the company's brand as it grows into new product market segments and increases penetration of the world's high-growth markets for mass storage.
Matt Massengill, chairman and chief executive officer, commented, “As our quality, performance and service leadership have satisfied an increasing number of customers all over the world, and because many of those customers most commonly refer to us as 'WD,' a symbol featuring those widely-recognized initials is a logical step. The evolution of our identity indicates the growing significance of our brand worldwide, and marks a milestone in our progress toward making 'WD' synonymous with reliable and responsive storage for all purposes.”
This week WD entered the 2.5-inch hard drive market, expanding its addressable markets by an estimated $4.6 billion; it now participates in all traditional hard drive market segments. The company has steadily grown for four years, has sharpened its focus on high-growth geographic markets such as China, India, Russia, the Middle East and others, and now is the second largest producer of hard drives worldwide.
WD's range of desktop, enterprise and mobile hard drives are available around the globe. Customers in many countries refer to the company as WD because the initials are easily transportable across all primary languages in which it conducts business.
The new WD logo can be viewed and downloaded on WD's Web site at: www.wdc.com/en/company/branding/logo-use.asp. The company's formal name will remain Western Digital Corp. Its ticker symbol will stay WDC on the New York Stock Exchange. (…)
