Introduction
In addition to the coat of arms, which remains for formal settings such as graduation certificates, we now have an informal visual identity to succeed the owl. Students who have helped the development of this design have praised its creative interpretation of a white Yorkshire rose, made up of colourful figures representing diverse, outward-looking students engaged in activities using different talents to the full. It draws on the old Carnegie symbol of a classical discus-thrower, gives an original twist to the concept of students stretching themselves and hints at a globe, as befits a world-class regional university with worldwide horizons.
